So a while ago you guys asked me if I would take some pictures of around here.
I shot some moody pictures lately.
I'm still working on pictures I took in the countryside last week. I'll try to make some more in the daytime whis week, when it's not so busy. (I hate taking pictures of busy cities. People are idiots when there are camera's around).

This is the street right behind my house. The road used to be a canal wich they filled up.

One of the canals.

One of the (very slippery) bridges over the canals.

The alleyway behind the Chinese take-out place.

Front street.

Main street. I wanted to take more pics, but I was being eyeballed by a couple of black dudes so I split. Nothing racial, I just happen to know they're dope dealers.

Old court house.

Me, staning on one of the draw-bridges over the big canals, in front of the only high rise building in the city.

...my way home.

This is Leeuwarden. And Yes...that is blue neon.
They have pink and green too here and there.

Leeuwarden is one of the oldest cities in Holland. There are houses here that pre-date the american civil war :)

My house, for instance, was built in 1901.
Is that sarcastic? The american civil war isn't THAT long ago.

My dad's house was built in the early 1700s...

I hope he meant the American Revolution. But even then that wasnt too long ago compared to the age of towns in europe.

Yeah, I was gonna say, that's a bad "for instance" regarding pre-civil war houses...typo? The building I went to school in from kindergarden-2nd grade was built around 1909. We certainly don't have the early 18th-century stuff here like Downest does on the East Coast. Love the pics, Bas...a good friend of mine has an expat friend living in Amsterdam that has offered to let us stay in his place for free. We'll hopefully make it over sometime next year.

Well, I meant in my "for instance" that my house was one of the newer ones in this area.
There are several buildings dating from 1700's or earlier in those pictures.

The city itself was officially founded in 1435. But people were living here since aprox 900-1000 AD.
The big building in the 6th picture dates from 1483, but rebuilt in 1590 . This is where goods were weighed, like butter, milk and cheese. But also where witches were weighed during the inquisition. They were drowned in the canal behind it, or burned at the stake on the court.

But people know how to drive over there. That alone makes me want to move over there.

I think any place that you live for a long time at, gets boring. I live near two of the biggist casinos in the world, and there pretty boring to me. But, im sure if Downest came down to one of them, if he hasnt already, he would have fun. Its just how we are. This getting boring to most people after awhile.

I vote that we over on the west side of the altantic ocean go visit the people on the east side. Who's with me? Good pics bas.
