It's been a looong time coming, but I'm finally focused on getting a swap under my JDM hood this winter. I went with an OBD-1 B16A and a YS1 cable trans. I wanted to get LSD too, but HMotors has a waiting list for cable LSDs. So, no limited slip for me yet.

It was delivered to ComposiMo's shop today, and here's the first batch of pics:

For the record by the way, i'd like to say that HMotors has come a LONG way since the last motor i had delivered to me from them. This thing was clean as hell, and nothing was cut. All the wiring is there, the hoses were disconnected nicely so they are salvagable, the fuel lines were disconnected nicely.... it is beautiful.

The only thing i'm not happy about is the axles, but thats an easy fix.

This'll be a fun clean swap 8)

Yeah man, I went to a local importer about 2 months ago, and they had a large selection but everything was cut. Mounts, axles, fuel lines, harnesses, downpipes, all cut. HMotors was the only place that I felt confident would be honest, and he said nothing would be cut. I also wanted to avoid getting an engine that was old and sitting, which is why I chose to go OBD-1. It also makes more power. :p

I'm done with auto dude, just done with it. :p

Aside from buying a few replacement parts for the swap, I'm not planning any other modifications yet. I am planning to get a new clutch and flywheel, things like that. I've let myself get distracted by things like JDM front end conversions and alcantara seats for too long, it's time for mo' motor.

Good luck learning to drive a manual transmission!

Kidding, kidding :) This car is going to be a far cry from the one I saw at N9/10 (whichever one I went to).

Yeah, it's come a long way since N9. I was constantly broke at that time though. I can certainly drive clutch btw. I was definitely amateur at best though, until I worked at my local Honda dealer for 9 months, back in 2003. I was responsible for maintaining the used car lot, and I got to drive enough cars that I could instantly drive anything smoothly.

Here's a minor update:

I went to ComposiMo's garage on Friday, we pulled off the stock mounts and the other unnecessary accessories like the power steering pump and A/C compressor bracket. A few other extraneous brackets and clips found their way to the trash, and the Hasport mounts were mocked up for some pics. :D

Here's the OBD-1 B16A harness that's being sent off to Rywire:

And here's the weight reduction:

The axles you see in the pics were already used as cores for some new lifetime warranty Integra axles from Advance Auto, but I don't have a pic of those.

It will be done in early February. I could push it and get it done a lot sooner, but I want to give myself a buffer of time and money to make sure it's done right, and to get some new parts before it goes in. John is doing the swap and that's a better time for him to do it too.

Just because I can, here's a pic of Project Tacoma with John being a goof in the background.

Parts are rolling in! Today I got my clutch and flywheel.

It's an Action stage 2 setup, with a sprung kevlar disc and heavy duty dual-diaphragm pressure plate. It's more than overkill for a stock B16A, but I plan on turbocharging this setup in the future. I'd rather buy a sweet clutch now, than buy an adequate clutch and replace it with this one a year later.

Here you see a close-up of the dual diaphragms. According to John and the action rep, it should require about double pedal pressure compared to stock. I don't know what stock feels like of course, so I don't care. :p

The setup is rounded out with an Action 12 pound chromoly flywheel.

Here's a few more parts that came in recently:

Pedals! 3 of them! Yes! :D

I also got a spare engine harness yesterday, courtesy of bobski, but I didn't take a pic. I'm going to send it to Rywire along with the B16 harness and make this swap plug & play.
