Ok I tried taking off the crankshaft timing belt pulley and I tried putting it on backwards-it doesn't fit. It just slides off with the crankshaft pulley off. I took the camshaft pulley off and put on another one that came with the car when I got it. Then I took a straight edge and put it from one pulley to the next everything lines up, and neither pulley is loose or worn that I can tell. The only thing that holds the belt on when I start it is the crankshaft pulley, otherwise the timing belt would just sail off the pulleys. The only thing I don't understand in the Chilton's manual is it says to retighten the adjusting bolt and finally the tensioner pivot bolt. I only see one bolt on the tensioner both in the picture in the manual and on the engine. Am I missing something?
