Tire sizes

Can someone please educate me on tire sizes, width, outside diameter, etc.
For example, how would I pick the right outside diameter tires to go on my 14in. sawblades? I sure this a gray area for some others here too and I thought maybe we could shed some light on it.

Our stock size= 185/60/14
The 185 refers to the width, some say it's supposed to be millimeters of tread or section width but even that varies from tire to tire, or brand.
60 is the aspect ratio, 60% of the tire width, is how far the tread is from the rim.
So pretty much the bigger the first number the wider it is and the smaller the second the shorter the hight profile.
and we all know what the 3rd number is...

If you were to go with a 205/60/14 you'd have a wider tire and taller one, even though the middle number is the same. that 60% is now more because the width of the 205 is more. That tire is something like an inch taller.
I use this link quite a bit: Wheel/Tire info. The offset and plus size calculators are great for getting an ideal ballpark estimate when looking to purchase new wheels and/or tires
Or you can just cheat HERE
does 205/60/14 fits in the rex with the saw blade type of rim without rubbing?

hell no!

195 was hard enough to shoehorn on a stock 5" width rim.

Actually I drove them on my first crx (90-91 Si rims & not lowered) for a couple years. They may have rubbed a little on the inside, but nothing I was worried about.

would you RECOMMEND it?
Yes and no. Depends on what he's looking for. They were fun for me bacause the roads down here are horrible and they cushioned the ride more, and at the time I liked the way they looked & wasn't worried about how bad it threw off the gearing/speedo. Or the little amount they rubbed. That crx was my fist import car after years of driving muscle cars, which allways got bigger tires. Oh and I'm sure they slowed the car down some.
To elaborate I just gave that size as an example, one that I'd actually used before, not as what I thought he'd want.

I guess I should have added that the best outside diameter would probly be the stock one in my opinion, which doesn't leave many other options in 14's if I remember right.
