Transmission Issues? Maybe?

Just purchased a 91 crx dx all-stock auto with 201k, and drove the car home 3 hours with the transmission shifting a bit hard specifically the kick down into 1st gear coming to a stop but I'm not going to act like the other shifts were nice feeling. The main complaint is it seems to not want to go into park? when I'm finished driving it and pull up to park and put it in gear the revs come up and hang there with the P on the shift indicator not illuminating. Then after wiggling some jiggling some button pressing and maybe a break press it goes into park but the light is red illuminating the P not sure if the colors matter but all other gears illuminate green not red. I plan on purchasing a newer transmission with 47k miles on it from the junkyard I work at, but id hate to spend money if it's not the transmission itself. (I'm not a Honda guy trying to learn here I just came from old 80s Fords loving this Honda regardless of its issues so far though)

Sounds like the TV cable needs adjusted. Similar in function to the kickdown rod from the carb on an old 302/C4 I had on my 75 Mduece HB.

where would i find said cable? also I've noticed it happens more when cold, and when slightly warm i can "nudge" the auto-shifter upward and it'll go into park and give me the key. I don't think there should be "play" in a park gear but that's what it feels like.
(I've read the pinned post on this forum and realized this isn't where i should be posting my problems feel free to delete this thread and i will go to the stock garage)
Have you checked transm. fluid level and condition?

In my old accord the Cable goes from throttle body to transmission. It may be stretched or even the gear shift cable itself may be stretched too.

Make sure all engine mounts and specially transmission mounts are solid good conditioning and not collapsed.

Idk how bad any of the mounts might be to the point of causing something similar to a stretched cable or putting extra tension on the cable itself to make the shifter to not sit at the correct position.

This is a contact issue with the slide switch on the shifter. They need to be cleaned and re-greased every decade or two. Silicone dielectric grease works fine IIRC. There's a blue box under the driver's seat that blocks key removal when not in park - unplug it when the jiggling trick isn't working. It also does the push-brake-to-get-out-of-park function, so you'll need to plug it back in to drive the car. The blue box is called the interlock control unit if you want to do a search.
The only electrics on the transmission itself are the torque converter lockup control solenoid (1 wire from the ECU to the transmission), the ground cable and the starter.
If you need to push the shifter a bit to release the key
X2 on the cable needs adjustment or a bushing on the cable ends.
