The main grounding strap under the battery tray can corrode over years and the strands will break little by little from the engine/transmission bouncing back and forth(normal). When enough of the strands have broken, all the electricity damanded by the various systems now has to "squeeze" through the valve cover ground trying to make it to the battery. This will cause the smoking/melting you describe. In addition, it will cause electrical circuits to behave abnormally. This is likely one if not the cause as to why the car wont run.

Check out that main ground visually and physically. It cannot be all covered in green or white and cannot have broken strands. The connection via the 12mm bolt to the chassis must also be clean..... meaning the threads as well as the washer as well as the eye of the strap.

yeah man.... the oil on the plugs is not good......

as for the other problem it sounds unrelated... like stated above... if the car is using that ground as the main ground.... then your battery big ground must be crappy..... take em all off and clean em...

let me know if you need help..... i could stop over and help you out.. ..

I was over there 2 times yesterday and saw your car.. .. . liking the wheels........ just do something with that fart can....

I like it i just am not crazy about the strange angle that it comes out of the back on... youll have to check out mine and see how they made the pipe...
