due to the previous owner taking my dx/hf hybrid motor to 8.5k on the tach several times daily, i about guarantee my head's got some issues that need 'straightened' out  lol. how much should i shave though? .0020? .0030? it'll be a 1g hf head on a 1g dx block.

Take just enough to true upthe head... if you just take a little bit there may be some left to re grind if something ever happens in the future.

Most machine shops know how much to "shave" to make a head straight.
OR....My machine shop here in MICH. bolts the head to a absolutely straight steel plate and heats the head and cools it to straighten.Aluminum only of course.

it really suprises me that people do this kind of thing.

was the previous owner 16 or did he/she have something to prove? either way, "its made of metal, its not gonna break!", must have been going through their heads.
