we were robbed...

4861 Views 19 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  poormansporsche
I wake up this morning and head to the living room to see my patio door and the window next to it open with the screen removed...

50" flat panel tv
xbox 360, 6 games 4 controllers
Laptop (i've owned it for less than a week)
Canon Digital Rebel

all gone... I've never been so pissed off before. We filed a police report after the officer accused me and my roommates of foul play. I call him out on it, asking how he had the balls to say we stole our own stuff that we dont have insurance on (yeah, bad call, we have it now). Then he acts a little nicer.

I realize i wont see any of it again, but theres a small hope that my parents homeowners insurance will cover it (i'm in college).

I'm just so broke up over my camera being gone, i never thought i could have such a strong emotional attachment to a CAMERA! lol

That really sucks man, I feel for ya. I bet you wouldn't mind if the thieves got a couple of knocks to the head if they got arrested either! I hope the insurance can help out.
 Thieves suck.

dont argue with a cop you know you stole it.lol

Are you renting? I dont think your parent insurance is going to pay because I think you are supposed to have renters insurance and still I dont think that would have covered it. Ouch 50" flatpanel damn thats going to be tough. I hate to say it but I think you are screwed. Sorry
IF you get some off the insurance...
The 400D was released recently, and I want it bad!
It was kinda forced entry... both doors were locked, but the window over the patio wasnt. the screen was pulled out and they came in through the window then unlocked the patio door.

there are 2 VERY obvious prints, one on the center channel that they so gently moved (seriously, it was wierd) to the floor, and one on the tv stand. but the cop said he wasnt going to dust and that the detective that would be here on monday was "very good" and didnt need prints so we didnt need to leave it all alone :rolleyes1: But we're still not touching anything and I took a bunch of pics with my roommates camera, documenting everything.

oh, and the burglary thing i actually knew... just didnt know how to spell  lol. That brings up something else, since we were home but the house wasnt "secured" what would the insurance company say? (lets assume we really did have renters insurance)

oh, some good news. since i bought the laptop last week, American Express is actually going to cover it! 8)

and Bas, i think i'll be going with a 20D... but you're right that XTi is pretty sick! but i kinda felt like cheating while i was pricing 20ds :(

 thats why we choose this apartment complex! all the 4 bedroom 2 baths got a 50" tv!

kinda gay that everyone in statesboro knows taht everyone in this building has one in their living room...

Good deal on the prints. Let's hope they have a record.

Help me out here:Answer my other questions:

where was everything stored?
Was something stored somewhere weird that only you and roomie would know about?

And since you were home, I think your house should be considered "secured" for insurance purposes. I mean, how often in the Georgia summer do you sleep with the windows open to let in the air?
nah, it was all in teh open. I know it wasnt my roommates, we all lost about equal on it... and i've known these guys for a long time, they're my best friends. (yeah yeah, i know crack does crazy things to people lol)

but how good can the prints possibly be if they've been sitting in a VERY frequently used apartment for 3 days??

So, it's not your TV? Meaning you don't own it, you just rent it?
i'm not sure on the technicalities of hte contract, but yeah kinda... We signed saying that we would pay if we broke it or lost it so...

think of it as incentive to share bathrooms.
lol, I believe you just "lost" your 50" TV :( . I really hope insurance covers it or they will understand and not make you pay...

:p

Well, I'm certain you're not going to be held responsible for it since it was stolen with you at home. Now, the apartment complex might try, and you need to re-read your lease and find out for sure, but that jsut doesn't sound reasonable. Would you be held responsible to fix the front door if someone crashed into it?

About the camera and things that are really yours, FIND SERIAL NUMBERS!
thats a good call... but there was a specific part in there about the TV, i'll check it out

and i'm way ahead of you on the serial numbers, i've got them all
You guys were asleep when this happened??? lol thats bad man, you didnt even hear them at all?

That's what I was thinking from the beginning. Moving a 50" TV can't be quiet. I can sleep through a thunderstorm but if there's an out of the ordinary squeak or noise of any sort, I'm up immediately. Good thing this didn't happen to me 'cause there'd be empty 12 gauge shells to pick up.

Sorry for your losses Charlie.

-Heu
you guys have to realize i live in big apartment complex full of college students. its never quiet.

but mainly, the TV is about 4 feet from the patio door and it weighs no more than 50lbs... and we're all asleep with our doors closed.
Live in the dorms with some people.... you'll be suprised what one can sleep through :(

Good luck with everything... I hope its recovered soon, and sorry to hear about the losses
I live in a townhouse with a unit on either side of me. In some situations this is a pain in the ass but when it comes to security I feel safer with people living so close to me.
It must be that time of the year, we had an attempted break-in last night around 4 in the mourning, luckily I had just got off of work a few hours ago and my roomates were up to. I grabbed my maglight and my glock 38 and my roomate was all too happy to unlock his new ak and went out front to see a guy running through the neighbors trees. I know, sounds like were thug wanna-bees but we are well trained and responsible and neither of the guns were loaded, more of a bluff. Any how when he left we found some visible attempt to pry the front door open.

Probably not the smartest thing to do. You know what you call an unloaded Glock? A rock.
Yeah, I concure.. but we were pretty sure it was this bum that is known to break into houses around the area.. and I didnt really want to shoot any one. If the persepective burgler made it into my house the clip would have stayed in, in short I didnt feel all that much of a threat
