well i have a guy coming down saturday to take my car from me, i no longer wish to work on this car, i am at my wits end, but what is in my future you ask? not a honda, not an acura, but a Pontiac.

1986 Pontiac Fiero SE v6 to be exact, he is trading me as my crx sits (not running right) and 300 bucks. i am kind of regreting it but i lost interest int this rex, i will pick up another one in avout a year or so, maybe sooner if i find a deal i can't pass up but for now i am going back to domestics......hope you all will still have me

quitter.

from what ive read you really only have some minor things wrong with your crx. Yeah it sucks and gets you down, hell i spent 2 weeks trying to get my car to crank. It was 1 wire.

you think workin on an old honda pisses you off and gets you down, wait until that pos pontiac breaks down. good luck with that.

Oh and your getting the raw end of the deal, your HF for a pontiac and $300?
People would dish out good money on a HF running or not.

Yeah, bad deal! Forget about working on that Fiero (which you will have to do A LOT!) They are a pain to work on. They are always needing work. They can be fun when they're running right, but they hardly ever are without much work! How much do you want to get for your rex?

I agree with black_krix and crxfisher on this one. I worked exclusively on domestics growing up. My crxs were my introduction to honda and japanese autos. These cars are built better and last longer, bottom line. I worked at honda research and development as well and i can attest to the difference in philosohpy and quality at a japanese auto maker. VEry different from what i hear from friends who work/have worked for ford and gm. For this reason I'd invest in the honda rather than the pontiac.

That being said and done, I too wish you weren't giving up on the honda. They really are simple and reliable cars. But anyone can get bogged down with a lot of little problems; they add up. You have to get through them one at a time. You also sometimes have to take a break. If you are doing complicated engine swapping and rewiring and such sometimes you need to just let the car alone for a week or two forget about it, then come back to it with a fresh mind later.

In the end whatever you want to do is the right thing to do, no matter what we say. but I hope that people here can give you good reasons to stick it out with the crx.

Cheers.

Shadow, you are gonna get raped man!!! Stop the deal from going through if you haven't already given the guy some money. If you think a puny little inline 4 is hell, just wait til something on the mid-rear v6 needs attention. You will toss a grenade at it trust me. Put it this way, I hate working on any v6 where the engine is accessible upon opening the hood. Now put that engine in an even more confined space behind the back seat and you better have that grenade ready.

Where in Illinois exactly is Pontiac and how far is it from Milwaukee WI. Tell the guy no deal, get the rex to me with a tow dolley and I'll make it run for you dammit!

EDIT: I just checked, if you're the Pontiac near Peoria, it's a mere 3hrs from me. Heck, scratch that and replace with OMFG, depending on what it is, save the 300 for me to fix it for you.

DUDE WTF!!!

you were sooo close to having it right...
it took me once 3 months to track down why my ZC wouldn't start, turned out to be a bad cam angle sensor in the dist.

I hate to see that you gave up, I tried my best get you going and to show you that you could do it.. you were soooo close!!

anyway, i'm not going to rag on you if you got frustrated, but i'm sad to see that you are switching over to a pontiac :-(

^that's the I4 version.

The Fiero is a plastic brick man. They look cool and... break. It took me a good week or so to get my Si up and running, but when I got it running, I have had no problems. I've had my DX since I was 17, I'm 25 now, and I've only had to replace a wheel bearing on it. That's it!

Man, I would not give up on the car. A Honda will last a long time.

My bro-in-law had one back when I was in college, living in Minnesota. I remember several times having to try and tow his car in the snow (with my CRX DX automatic) because he couldn't get it started and it was buried in a pile of snow. That POS never worked right. And I was constantly freezing my can off trying to push and pull and move that stupid thing in below zero temps. And my 88 DX started up in -50 temps every freaking time!

As much as I am a fan of the Fiero have swapped some nice motors in them I would keep the CRX as I am more of a fan. The fiero tranny are junk more the 5sp than the auto. The 2.8l can easily be swapped out for a 3.1 or 3.4 but you basically just have a stroked version of the same crappy motor. the Fiero can be made to run but its alot cheaper and easier with a Honda. oh and the fiero "catching on fire" issue was with the early 4 cyl versions and was cured with a better heat shield.

Keep the crx.... its frustrating to work on stuff that never goes your way... . .. but you are close.... heck you just painted it put your body kit on sheesh..... why do you think that guy wants your crx.... he's going to fix it... and have a nice car... . . youll feel alot worse... when that crx blows by your Fiero either because 1 it will be faster

or 2 your fiero is broke along the side of the road...

My firned had many many of these cars... some 4 cyl some 2m6 and 2 nice gt's they were all junk.... you have to pull the whole bottom cradle out of it just to get to the tranny or engine to remove it... ( frame, engine, tranny, axles, wheels) they are pure evil to work on.... not to mention that the 2.8 is about the crappyest engine that GM has ever made.... save for the 2.3 aluminum cylinder pre 74 vega engines.. that Fiero is NOT A HONDA and WILL NOT go 200000 + miles...... GRRRRRRR keep the honda man you are getting taken for aride. .
