What colour should tom's engine be? This morning only!

I'm going to get some paint this morning to paint my new engine, I'm undecided between black and silver (stock looking). I'm not going to loeave this one bare because I keep my engine really clean, and the aluminium pits a lot from corrosion when it's unprotected. I was going to paint it silver with metalmask or something, a nice professional look and not far off OEM. Then I thought I might paint it black, since everything else is black or is going to be, and I've never seen a blacked-out engine bay. So vote!

Silver m'Kay.

I'm with mithuth - Silver all the way - then you can actually see it in the bay. Much easier to work on too.......................

I just painted mine "Aluminum", it came out almost chrome, haha. It looks great though, and will reveal any oil leaks early.

Looks like it's going to be black! I'm not worried about leaks, my engines don't leak oil, only pistons

I'm going to go ahead and paint everything black with polished/brushed aluminium highlights, like the intake manifold and valve cover are now. The intake tube is getting fresh paint as well, and the tranny too!

good idea on the highlights, that's what I was going to suggest, mostly black with some parts silver.

Maybe you should do the highlights in pink - to please Angry and DanielleB - though I'm surprised she didn't chime in yet!

You need a Pink option pink motor FTW. I think I am gonna paint my VC pink. :wink:

i dont like the way a block looks painted black. Silver 8)

Black looks nice and clean you dont see much dirt on it better for showing off. yes silver does show signs of leaks early but if you just paid attention to your engine you wouldn't need it to be easier to see. So i say black all the way!!
