Im currently using Mobil 1 extended life 5w30 w/ Mobil 1 filter. Seems to be the best stuff out there if you want to go beyond 3000 miles on an oil change. What all does everybody else use?

in my crx. i use a mitsubishi oil filter... part# md352626 i get them free from work so i use those. and modile1 5w30 i also get that free. i change the oil and filter every 2k

my civic gets the same oil filter or napa gold part# 1334 and i just run 5w-30 penzoil out of the drum from work. i change the oil in this every 2k and replace the oil filter ever 4k

oh and my diesel truck uses rotella 15w-40 synthetic with a cummins filter. or mopar whatever i grab.. it hold 3 gallons of oil. i change the oil every 10-12k.

but im sure you dont care what i put in my truck.

thats what i use. after reading about the longevity of sythetic oils thats all i use because im too cheap to take it somewhere and im usually to busy to do it. thats a problem. my crx gets maybe 10k year on it so i can get by with changing it twice. i was using the hamp filters but have switched to the pure one filters.

i have a container out in my shed with various oil from different vehicles and equipment. one i know for sure was a 84 subaru that had been sitting for like 9 years. what was left of the oil is in that jug. That lovely concoction of various fluids is what i call "The Lawnmower Oil" The mower burns it and leaks it so fast i just use that stuff. When i get low on lawnmower oil i know its time to change the oil in some vehicle around the house.

and yes it uses that much oil. almost a quart per mowing. she keeps on going though. not bad for a free mower.

When it comes to oil I use to always use all Valvoline products. But I just grabbed whatever filter they had on the shelf.

Last time I decided to try out the Mobil Clean 7500. But I still just grab a filter as long as it is not fram.

Mobile 1 full synthetic 5w-30 and M-104 Oil Filter. Every 3k on the dot if I can. Had to replace the oil pan bolt the last time the rubber washer finally gave out and wouldn't hold the seal.

Changing oil every 3k seems like kind of a waste to me, at least on the oil and filter I use, theyre designed to go over 3k between changes! All of the Mobil 1 filters are designed to go beyond 3k to begin with... They arent quite as good as the amsoil synthetic filters from what Ive heard, but theyre pretty close.

Mobil 1 or valvoline synthetic, filter depends sometimes.

Can someone tell me what's the big bad deal on fram filters? I remember them being one of the best back in my muscle car days

Fram uses cardboard endcaps in their filters, these endcaps can deteriorate over time and can lead to serious engine damage(think what cardboard could do if you get enough of it clogged into your oil pump). Ive seen a motorcraft sales rep come into my work and take 2 filters right off the shelf(I work in a parts store) 1 fram and one motorcraft, and cut the housing off with a dremel, exposing the insides of both filters. The motorcraft uses metal endcaps, the fram uses cardboard. Whether or not other cheap filters use this same design is unknown, but I wouldnt be one bit surprised. But, needless to say Id sooner put a used oil filter on my rex than I would a fram. Id sooner spend a little money on a quality filter than I would spending the money to replace a motor.

Castrol 10w-30 High-mileage on the '85 Si, she burns a quart through her valve guides every 1500mi so synthetic is out of the question. And I used to use fram for everything (only company besides Honda itself that will support an EW3 motor...aka D15a3 but it's the last 12 valve Honda ever made. Now I use only Honda filters and have noticed that when I change my oil, it isn't even dirty! It's not as clean as it went in but it is not black either! Still amber colored, just a little darker. The Fram didn't catch crap apparently. Fram = $2-3 Honda = $7 Mak

I didnt want to build another thread and found this one while googling.

My question is, is it ok/normal for me to use the mobil SUPER 5000 10w30 on a 88 crx? (a new version of the mobil clean 5000)

My engine is stock 1.6 with about 270k on it. I just bought the fram filters...Anyone else uses mobil super 5000 10w30? Im in cali so its not TOO cold at times..
