My car has an Alpine Stereo/CD changer but the front skeaker are a bit whimpy. The rear seem to have more range, even some base, but not the front.

The Crutchfield site says that 6.5 in speakers fit but Ebay sells adapters to install 6.5 speakers, so I am confussed.

Can I install 6.5s or do I did an adapter or modify what I have or what or should I just go with 5.5s?

Thanks

Bob

Not all speakers require that you modify the front speaker cups. I measured the depth, and bought speakers that have a slim enough profile that they would fit in there without modification. I ended up going with a set of PIONEER TS-A1671R 6-1/2" 220WATT 3-WAY's. They fit perfectly and have much better sound than the stock units.

Yup..
If you wanna put 6.5's up front without modifying the speaker basket, you want to look for what they call "shallow mount" speakers. Crutchfield is where i went to look for a listing of speakers, they list shallow mount speakers as well.
If you don't care you can just cut the back of the basket out and put a larger 6.5 up front if you like.

I'm wondering if these blaupunkt VX662 6.5" 480w car speakers will fit in the front door panel of my '91 CRX. My main concern is that their mounting depth is 2.9", which sounds like it is pushing it considering the speaker enclosure in the door was made for a 5.25" diameter speaker. I fear that even if I cut out part of the door panel behind the enclosure I will not have enough room, these 6.5" speakers are listed as "oversized" :(

Here is a link to the item on ebay:

I'm not sure about the fit, but keep in mind that they're actually rated at 120 watt RMS. (I never understood why some companies list the peak power). I only mention this if you're looking for speakers for an existing amp.
