Looking for a 16" wheel that is reasonably priced with an acceptable wheel weight. Anyone know how much the factory 14" Si wheels weighs so I can use it as as baseline. Also, I suspect the main reason to avoid 17s is the weight right? 215 35 17 gets you to a close to factory OD (< 5mm) so gearing should not be an issue.

Well, the weight, increased rotational inertia and having a grand total of 3" of tire between the rim and road. Really gotta keep an eye out for potholes with so little protecting the rim... Hit one too hard and it could blow out the tire and/or write off the wheel.

Tire Rack was selling 16" Weds Sport TC-005's on clearance a while back. They weigh about 11 pounds. I'm not sure if they still have that size or not, they do still have 15's and I want a set bad.

As for sizing on 17's, 215/35-17 is the closest to the overall size of the stock 185/60-14 tires. I think Pirelli is the only company making that size though. Overall they're like 4.8mm larger than stock, while 205/40-17 is approximately 18.3mm larger. For a long while, 205/40 was the smallest size available for 17's.

A 35 series tire for a 17" rim, watch out for potholes! :D
