I'm going to upgrade my sound system from factory to 4 speakers. The car didn't come with rear speakers to start out with, but I heard people mentioning speaker brackets, I was wondering where does that go, anyone have a picture of their rear speaker?

And anyone have recommendation on what kind of speakers I should get. Thanks

There are brackets for the rear speakers, they're like big plastic cups that screw into the surrounds, and have holes for attaching speakers.

Any firm peice of plastc or wood or metal with the holes in the right places will work just as well in my opinion.

When you remove the covers, you'll see a funny shaped hole there cut into a metal plate. There are three screw holes (I think) around that plate.

Use some paper or cardboard to make a template that will fit over that hole with screw-holes. cut that out and then make a big hole with screw holes in the middle of it for your speakers.

There is a thread somewhere about JDM bass tubes that has a good look at what I mean... its just like the face of the JDM bass tubes, just with a hole instead of a tube.

Here's another quick diagram...something like this:

You can use any size that will fit. Use some cardboard to get everything just right...including the position of the speaker hole, so that there is room for its magnet in back.

Use cardboard to make the test template... that way you can redo it a bunch of times till you get it right.

THEN when you have the cardboard one perfect, use it as a template to make the final one out of something sturdy like 1/8" wood.

Also on this subject of rear speakers in a CRX.

I noticed my rear speakers never had that crisp sound the front ones did...I took off the covers and noticed a piece of plastic stuck to the inside of the cover...oppositie of where the cloth was.

I grabbed a corner and peeled the plastic covering off and tah-dah, the highs in the rear were better. Honestly I cant fathom why that plastic should be there.

The plasic is there as sound deading for when there isnt speakers there.

As for speakers, I would go with the same brand as you go in the front. Also, you can go 6 1/2 in the front aslong as thier shallow. Im running 6 1/2 Kickers all around in my car. Bostons are good but were a little to much for me. They've come down in price a bit though.

its all good, i love crutchfield, i orded the speakers as rear side panel and it came with brackets (13 dolalr value)

<3<3

also I'm not sure what your talkin about for the plastic....

i couldn't afford bostons as my rear, and crutchfield didn't have boston as rear side panel speakers so no free brackets. but i guess those 50 dollar should do =\

For the plastic, take off the covers and look on the inside. Its looks like heavy blue window tinting stuck down inside the grills. If its not there (and you just see the grills and the cloth) then dont worry about it. If the plastic sheet is there, tear it out and enjoy better sound.

I am by no means a radio expert...so I have come to rely on a company called CRUTCHFIELD; they sell car audio equipment. They cost a little more than Walmart, however, they can tell you exactly what will fit in your CRX and they supply the speaker mounting brackets (free). Also, any time that you have questions you simply call them and they walk you through your problem. I hope this reply was helpful...it is not as creative nor as inexpensive as all of the other fine suggestions, but it is the best that I can offer, for now.
