WHere to look for a cargo rack?

747 Views 9 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  mithuth
I've been thinking more and more about having a cargo carrier on my CRX so I can haul my canoe for fishing and camping season.

Anyone have one?
What's the weight limit on them?

that's about what I want... only replace the bike with a canoe...
my thule setup is fine.

i got it out of the neighbors trash, keys and ski/board holder and everything.

i got a surfboard rack too. works fine, even with the short roof line. just becareful of opening the hatch as it can hit the glass at full extension.
got any pics of how it mounts?

The one you're using, was it originally for the crx or are they all sorta universal?

Any idea what the max weight is? My 13' fiberglass canoe is kinda heavy...
heres a thread i started. i cant find the link to the pictures i finally took. i thought it would be in there, but there pics of others.

Do you use it? Interested in parting with it? lol.
lol. i use it. i just found my keys too! i put them away last year and couldnt find them in time to use the rack the two times i went boarding this year too! funny how that is... you keep it somewhere you try to remember but cant. and now i finally found them, after the seasons pretty much over. its ok, i can use it to surf this year.

you missed my friends sale too.

What kind of canoe do you have? What's the size. I once (once!) considered using my CRX to haul my 16' Coleman lake canoe, until I saw how absurd (and dangerous) it looked on top.

I simply used the foam mounts that attach to the canoe rails whereby the canoe simply sits on the roof of the car without a rack.

Thus, another reasopn I'm mad about my jeep. Thanks for mentioning canoe-toting!
If you'd buy more than the flower painted hand tools at the dollar store you could fix your own Jeep easy...

It's a 15-18' Mowhawk fiberglass. I've never measured it. Beyond that I have no idea. It's my grandparents and I take it whenever I want. They don't use it anymore so the only TLC it gets is a waxing once a year and a wash when I take it out. They want me to buy it, and I probably will this summer. I'll sell it and get the 13' flat back I want so I can put a trolling motor on it for fishing.

I don't have the foam rail covers for it. I also would want it on some sort of rack so it wont slide side to side. Just tossing it on the roof doesn't seem safe enough for me.
