Previous build thread

Well my car is in desperate need of a make over so this winter will be focused on doing just that. I have decided on painting the car championship white. On the roster for this project is swap the 89 doors our for 88's, with removed side impact beams. The Si roof will be replaced with a HF roof, no sunroof! =) Also a Full NASA/SCCA/NDRA/NHRA legal cage will be fabricated, and installed. I'm also contemplating installing the Fal Lexan window kit, but I'm still on the fence on that one. The motor is coming out, and the engine bay will get repainted, and a few more items will be shaved as well.

The car basically isn't built for any specific reason other than to please me. It's kinda a Swiss army knife. Good for all occasions, but not great for any one.

I have installed GSR blades now which will be used for long trips, and this spring it is getting 4 bronze volk TE-37s with RA-1's for track days, and basic driving, and a set of M&H 24x8" Slicks on Jegs Drag race wheels for the straight line occasions. Now that I have a good bit a power I refuse to ever try to drag race on street tires again. It is pointless.

Here is a before pic, and the first progress pic with the newly acquired Mugen kit, and wing, and a pic of the vision of what it will be.

I've done a few things now, and here are some pics. I removed my hideous rad, and swapped a 90 GTi non AC rad. I also installed a Cusco Strut bar, tein hood struts, and a remote radiator fill. Under the hood it is gona get a modified stock airbox too. The sunroof is out, and the 88 doors are impact beamless and I'll get new pics soon.

Got a couple of update pics. I installed the Tein Hood Dampers, and I painted my valve cover Olive Drab Green. It is a textured finish but it doesn't appear so in these crappy pics.

How stiff are those hood dampers? Are they adjustable? Did you notice a major difference in corne...

<ducks to dodge the shotgun shells> :p

Your car is gonna look mint when its done. Can't wait to see it at N13.

The dampers are great. They are not adjustable, but the stiffness seems perfect. I only did them because my hood webbing is chopped up, and it sagged a bit. No more sag. I like them allot.

Love the valvecover Bart...and the rest of the plans sound great.

You mentioned you were planning on painting the engine bay...will that be white too? Might be tough keeping it clean, but when it is, it'll look good. There's nothing better than a white engine bay with a wire tuck. Not to mention if there's a K in there. :)b
Yeah it will all be white. I worked on the airbox today. There is no way it will fit in stock form. It hit the brake MC, the hood, and the strutbar. So out came the cut off wheel. Once I get it to where it will fit, the holes I have made will have CF stretched over them. Basically the whole thing will be CF eventually. Only the mounting base, and lip where it comes together will remain stock. I'm gonna use my K&N from my homemade CAI too. It's gonna be allot of work, but I think it will look great in there, not to mention there will be nothing else like it.

I'm sure many of you are like WTF has Bart gone off his rocker, but I just want to fill that big void over the tranny and clean the bay up some. The box will pretty much hide my entire brake MC, and fuel system, and shift cables. The washer tank, and factory intake tube holes will be welded shut, and smoothed too. It's clearly an aesthetic function but it may make a few ponies too with the ram air intake I am fabbing up to connect to it. This is what happens when you stare at your engine bay too much, you embark on a quest to fabricate your own one off parts, lol.

I'm gonna start with 400fr 500rr
I was meaning spring rates for your hood dampers. lol

Your car is going to be pretty rough with 400f 500r. My car is 350f 450r and I won't go any rougher.
I like it rough. I rode in Brian who you bought your car from's current car with 800lb spring rates, and it was smooth enough for me. LOL. I dunno the rate of the hood dampers, it is plenty for my cut up hood.

I dunno from what Lee Grimes (Koni) told me. That would be too much, and I would loose performance. He said this would be a good starting point. Although he recommended softer rears for street use.
Street use? Isn't this the car with no heat or door bars?

I like that you're not just sitting back with a mugen kitted K20-powered CRX, you're continuously striving to make it better. It's motivating.

Excellent choice of color too. :p
Nor will I ever stop until it is the pinnacle of what I feel a CRX should be. The being said here is the result of several hours work on the custom fabricated carbon fiber airbox. The K&N filter will be part of the lid. The inlet portion close to the driver's side mount, will connect to 3" piping running to a velocity stack tucked to the right hand side, of the opening, in the bumper cover. It should be a pretty sweet setup. I've never seen anything like this done before. I'm kinda in uncharted territory. Oh and amazingly the 70mm BDL fits under the OEM DC5 ITR intake boot. Coo; stuff, enjoy.
