im having trouble with the slack on the T-belt...

after i set everything at TDC and slide the belt on to the cam pulley, there's always too much slack.. when i turn the crank pulley counter-clockwise to tighten it, my timing always goes way off! the crank pulley usually moves about 3-4 teeth before the cam pulley even starts to move.

is there a trick to the t-belt tensioner?

 i promise this will be my last stupid newb question. thanks guys.

When you're putting the belt on the cam gear, pull the front part of it tight so there isn't slack to be taken up by the crank pulley. Before you tighten the tensioner, go through a couple of rotations of the crank to center the belt.
