What has been your most difficult project that you have ever attempted? It doesn't have to be car related, but if it is, thats ok.

Mine would have to be making a guitar. I decided a while back that I wanted to at some point purchase a PRS guitar. I played one at one of the local guitar shops, and it just sang. Well, time has passed and I still don't have 2Gs laying around to buy a guitar that feels like that in your hands. So I got this great idea to make one. I had a guitar with a broken neck laying around (Ibanez GAX70) so I gutted it for the electronics and hardware. I bought a nice large section of poplar (bright sounding tone wood), some mahogany (deep sounding tone wood) and some maple for the neck and fret board. So far I have laminated the poplar body with a layer of mahogany to deepen up the tone, and I have laminated the neck with 3 layers of maple, 2 layers of
mahogany, and a layer of walnut for strenght. I am now trying to get the neck at the proper angle to the body so the strings will be placed correctly. My next task is going to be measuring down to the 1000th of an inch to place the frets on the neck. Its been one heck of a fun project, but long, and often times confusing. I still need to get some guilted maple veneer to laminate over the top of the body, and then finish it with blue stains and laquer.

there's a couple outdated pics here

should look something like this if I'm lucky :p

I know it won't have the sound I really want, but hopefully it will still sound good, and eventually I can replace the electronics with better.

Replacing my clutch for the first time. Actually, I could narrow it down to the very end...putting the transmission back on by myself. Dang, that sucked!

That really does suck! I've had to do that a couple of times. It especially sucks if you are really unlucky and can't seem to get the splines to line up. The first time, I bruised the insides of my arms from wrists to mid-biceps doing that. Now I won't do that unless I have someone else helping me or an engine hoist.

However, the most difficult task that I've undertaken is the one that I've been working on bit by bit for the past 2 years....the restoration of my Special Edition. I'm *almost* done the prep work from the firewall forward on the car. Next step is a little welding and some POR15. :D I think the most difficult part has been having to learn all sorts of new skills along the way in order to get to the next stage of my project. Before this project, I knew nothing about completely dismantling a CRX... I knew nothing about body work. I still haven't got a welder. And I still need to learn how to paint properly. It's going to be a long process....

The hardest project, car wise, was learning how to do EVERYTHING for my ZC swap all by myself! I only knew how to change my oil, and change a flat tire when I had to pull off this swap. I mean I was a total NEWB at everything mechanical.. so not only did I have to learn what the tools were.. "pickle fork???" "Torque Wrench??" I had to learn how to change my clutch.. etc.. I knew what that basic tool were and all.. but having to do a project like that with ZERO experience really sucked! Thank God that it wasnt a more complex B-series swap...

Most difficult project? hmmmm.... finding a decent girl that may like to become Mrs. Me.... still haven't figured that one out yet...

Seriously though, i'd like to believe it was something different than this, because my life doesn't -totally- revolve around cars, but the most difficult project i've done to date has to have been Brymans 1st Gen CRX...

Now THAT was a pain in the booty...

actually that was a rare german imported rod for swatting flys, and it makes a good prop rod as well. not so good for swatting flys though, sometimes those germans make things hard on themselves

Hey, you know, we customized that german fly rod to... it wasn't always so lightweight.. lol.

bluecrxnc: THanks! It is an amazing swap.... even looking back on it, i'm still not totally sure how everything was able to fit under there. I just wish that he was more local to me during the buildup so that communication could have been better throughout the deal... but it still turned out ok in the end :) And yea, his CRX Collection is second to none, thats for sure!

By the way blue, speaking of local, how do you like Greensboro? Lots of imports around there? Nice town to live in? hows the crime in the area? Any hills around, rollling topography, etc? nice places to live? decent land availability? how many import-related shops do you have in the area? 8)

It's was in the Top 10 in Forbe's for the hotest spot for Singles ;)

I've lived here for 12 years and love it. In 3 directions within 40 mins there are winding hilly roads... some of which are 25-35 mph and go for 8 miles in mountains (* found this area by accident while driving my work van around)

As of recent we've stuck around 50-60 degrees for a very mild start to winter. I've been to Florida and lived in Texas before (9 yrs in Rockdale, near Tyler and Austin) and still like Greensboro NC best (Whole "Triad" is great = Winston-Salem, Greensboro, High Point) Crime has dropped alot too.

You should relocate ;)

Hmmmm..... Hot Spot for singles, eh?

Well, if i can't find a nice girl here, why should it be any different anywhere else? ah, j/k.. its all good... some day may come the one to be, and until that day showeth itself the true light, i will wallow in darkness looking for sight...

Eerrr... anyway, what was this about? Oh yea, Greensboro.. lol. A good friend of mine was raised there actually. It is a town that is on my "to see" list on my next voyage into the carolinas to search for a place to lay my head.

Anyhoo.... back to difficult projects! 8)

JB, stop putting it on a pedistal :p

Best advice I have, stop trying, things will fall into your lap, umm, yea, lol.

I met my fiance at a college party through my little sis, things went really well, then my ZC went so I was car-less and unable to see her. Besides, she was working on her thesis, and ended up running out of time for me. Then of course, the typical issues came along... anyway, it was 2 years since my last girlfriend when I met her. We talked for a couple months every chance we got, and then it faded really quick. I spent that whole summer trying desperately to find a girl, and just wound up depressed, lol. So, I said screw it... I'm just going to concentrate on my CRX and school. A month and a half later, my sister called and I was going out to dinner with her and a few of her friends (one being the girl I was hitting it off with the year before). We started talking after I invited them back to my place, and a few weeks later, we were dating.
