haitian's 90 dx update 07/19/2016 --> Rear Disc Swap!

Postby haitian-REX » Tue Mar 19, 2013 6:45 pm

So back in early November of 2012 i came across this little beauty on CL. She had some issues according to the ad: needed new oil pan gasket, cold start/idle issues, tranny grind, etc mostly small stuff but the PO felt these were major issues; even called it a "project car" in the ad. Seeing as how i was dying to get back into a crx and all the other ones in my area were trash i figured i'd at least meet up and check it out in person. needless to say once i saw it in person and got to drive it i was pretty much sold (even with its "issues") but i never batted an eyelash with the PO.. Talked him way down on his price and got it for a steal 8)

anywho i wanted to wait until i had freshend her up and did a few things before i posted any pics; here is a quick rundown on what i've done so far:

Specs (when purchased):
1990 DX
D15B VTEC w/Si Trans
Stock manifold, test pipe, resonator, magniflow muffler all 2.5"
Kyb Excel-G shocks w/Ebay coilovers

Motor/Tranny:
Replaced oil pan gasket with an OE one
No name header off CL (but is solid quality)
Re routed (correctly) all of my vac lines
Replaced eacv, iat, tw sensor, map, purge, pcv, and deleted the fitv
Removed and cleaned the throttle body
Removed entire engine harness and re-soldered all connections and replaced pins that were bad
Installed the proper 02 sensor (had a 4-wire when the p08 ecu requires a 1-wire)
VERY MILD brake/vac line tuck
Replaced input shaft gasket on tranny as well as a tranny flush and refill with honda MTF
Replaced a couple bad coolant lines as well as a flush and refill

Suspension:
Skunk 2 UCAs and LCAs
Skunk2 pro S II coilovers
DA integra front and rear swaybar
All new energy suspension bushings

Interior:
Originally fixed the cracked climate control, but just swapped in the 90-93 accord climate control
Replaced missing interior plastics
New 5 1/4 inch pioneers all around
Sound deadening in the rear plastics
SOON TO COME: Integra cluster swap

i'm sure i'm missing a few things but whatevs, time for the fun, PICS:
Oh and note: i put the pictures in a somewhat chronological order of when i first got the car to now

yea, i had a "baby blue" (i know thats not what the technical name is) hf before this one, but this color is def my favorite

actually thats the only pic i have of the fix i did and its not a repair plate; i pulled a climate control from an ef sedan and pulled off its faceplate and then trimmed it down to fit mine and after a bunch of super glue that was what i managed to make... it worked just fine but i wanted to change it out, and unfortunately when i went to pull mine out for the accord swap it crumbled to bits :( but the accord climate control worked like a charm :bounce:

i love them! I had progress coilovers on my ef hatch with the h22 and i like these skunk2s better personally.. and when i first bought this crx it had kyb gr2 excel-g's with some green ebay coilovers and it felt like crap, so i'm pretty happy with the current setup..

so another small update; wanted to freshen up the look a little bit so i picked up some bumper and trim paint, as well as some automotive enamel (gloss and flat) and painted the bumpers, trim, wiper arms, wiper fascia in the front (plastic that covers the openings for the vent and wiper arm linkages), window moldings all around, door handles, and the side mirrors...

and pics :bounce:

trim paint makes such a difference! Its one of the cheap things you can do that really transforms the look of the car. Im suprised more people dont do it, I did it and it looks great. Really liking all the mods youve done so far, especially the lip!

For the tranny oil, you should have used regular motor oil 10w30. Car looks great tho!

preesh...

and for the tranny oil i did consider going with 10w-30, or 5w-30 even, but i figured i'd keep it OE just cause i couldnt find any "good" reason not to...

hey just an FYI (not that it really matters) but that's not an intergra GSR cluster. redline is too low. that would be from an LS.

nice car tho :-)b colour looks great and the trim looks excellent refinished. what kind of paint did you use? i've heard SEM is really good for bumper paint.

Interesting.. Its funny how with some stuff you think you are helping your car by staying with OEM products but in fact your not... You may have just given me a project for this weekend cause my synchros are shot for 3rd and 4th (thanks to the PO) and I thot the fresh fluid would help a little but hasn't at all... Thanks for dropping that knowledge on me...

Honestly I hadn't noticed, truthfully I kinda assumed it was a gsr because of all the suspension and brake mods (I really couldn't tell tho cause the motor was long gone before I got to the car, it was at the junk yard obviously)... And I just used rustoleum automotive paint: trim & bumper black, black gloss enamel, and black flat enamel...
