Street tires for AutoX

I'm putting my crx in the last autoslalom event this year to get my feet wet. I plan on running all of next season with it.

I'm probably going to want to stay with street tires to keep me in the class I'm in, and to have mercy on my axles.

What size rims should I be looking at. My choices are 13" VX wheels, 14s, or I have a set of light 15x6.5 Konig Subzero.

Tire Rack has the Azenis 215 available in 195/60-14. A few years ago, that was the street-tire-class tire to have.

They also have RE-71R in 195/50-15. About two years ago, that was the tire to have.

In the same 15" size, they have Direzza ZII Star Spec, Ventus R-S4, and Proxes R-1R.

All of the above should be good choices for cone-dodging in a street-tire class. They will tend to be compromised in areas other than grip, though.

Your choice depends on what class you run in. Stock class limits your choice to a stock 14x5.0, or you could go + or - 1" diameter, but have to keep the 5.0" width. Not many choices for stock class, dunlap star spec in 14" 185/60/14, bridgestone re71r 195/50/15 on a 15x5.0.
If you are running sts, different story. There you could use the 15x6.5" you indicated. If that is the class, and the wheel you would use, go with the bridgestone re71r, in the 195/50-15. Best choice for that size rim. If sts and want a better choice, get a 15x7.5, and a 225/45-15, bfg 1.5. Of course more money, and drivetrain wear.

I can't run stock class because I am B swapped. I'm running in our Sport FWD Modified class.

As for wheels, I'm going to be running 13s for now. I got a set of VX wheels with brand new tires for 150 CAD this evening.

I'm running in the street tire class, but I may move to race tire class next season if I can find some track take-off stickies in 13".

If you're a costco member they're having a sale in November, $40 off a set of bridge stones and $.01 mount and balance. they can order RE71's (I get them from costco) I would say go with the 15's you mentioned and a 195 re71. BFG's are cool, but they're more money and need more heat (like two drivers apparently) I just tried the new Nexen's and they're great too but limited sizes so far

If you have that many sets of rims, get track only rubber for the 15s, and swap from the 13's at the event. You'll be in a more competitive class, but you'll have more fun, which to me is the best part of autox. Those little trophies aren't worth the aggravation of being pigeonholed into options for your car which suck.

I was just offered a set of half worn r comps for a good price from a friend of mine. That will do me for a few seasons of dodging cones.

Also scavenged an old set of Omni Power coilovers off a wrecked car in a junkyard for essentially free. That will do me for suspension until I can save up for a set of Konis
