My 89' rex DX failed inspection and the mechanic ran Justice Bros. Emissions System Cleaner in order to get it to pass, which it did. But right afterwards as I was pulling away, I noticed the car was idling hard and I could hear sputtering as I accelerated.
In addition, instead of the normal r-r-r-r- when starting, I know hear r-r-rrrrr, r-r-rrrr before it turns over, as if there were something misfiring.
Every now and then I hear a knock when starting the engine, as well.
Before inspection, I replaced a radiator that was allowing coolant and transmission fluid to mix. The tranny fluid may still have a bit of coolant, as i have yet to do a full flush.
I took it back to the mechanic and asked how the cleaner was administered thinking perhaps a line somewhere was open. All the lines look okay.
Could it be the adulterated tranny fluid causing this problem? Would that cause the hesitation when starting, the occasional knock and the sputtering? Could the JB have knocked deposits loose that may have lodged somewhere?
Appreciation in advance.
