Posted this in another thread but was buried by other fixes in my repair log

So I just did a tune up and when it came time to set the Ignition timing with a light, no marks on the pulley. The case has only one needle to aligning. I cleaned the pulley to try and find the mark, no luck. I tuned the timing by ear and Idles at 700-750 runs god but seems to be consuming a lil bit more gas. Fuel needle moves about every 25 mile

Tune up done:
Tightend exhaust bolts
tightend headers
Oxy Sensor
New plugs gapped at .042
Cleaned dizzy parts
new oil
new coolant
new pcv
Cleaned up grounds
new battery terminals
cleaned air filter

Previous owner says he had issue with the EGR valve, so Im blocking it off with a fuel block off plate from a 22r, fits perfect $8 lol hopefully this will fix some of the hesitation.

Anyone had a bad expereince from blocking this off, should I expect anything to go out do to the block off.

I can think of two steps to set timing if there's no timing mark on the crank pulley:

1) Use a dial indicator with a long extension (not like socket extension, but the measuring piece on the dial indicator needs to reach the piston) to find TDC for the pistons and set the cam gear to TDC and then adjust the timing belt. Use a degree wheel or get creative with a compass to make the timing mark.

2) After setting mechanical timing, you can use a "smart" timing light that lets you simulate timing advance/retard (timing doesn't change, but the flash changes as if timing changed). Then make a few marks on the crank pulley (obviously with the engine off) and use the smart timing light to figure out where the timing mark should be placed on the crank pulley.

Alternatively you can just get a new/used crank pulley with the right markings. Getting the pulley loose in a junk yard can be a PITA (I needed ten feet of leverage to break mine loose), but it shouldn't be too hard to find used or too expensive to buy a new OEM one.

The stock fuel needle isn't particularly accurate. What's your MPG over an average of a few tanks?

Still on my first tank of gas, forgot that I added Seafoam so my heat range is going to be different I gotta burn that out then try and time it.

ive gotten about 140 miles outta 2/5 of a tank: so I guess thats actually pretty good mileage for messing with all the tuning stuff so soon.

When i got the car it had the headers wide open with the exhaust just hanging there and two o2 sensor bunges open did all the work list in my other post and now prob getting the proper mileage.

Good thinking on the screw drive tip, just did that on my yota 20/22r hybrid and totally spaced it.... got a lot going on lol
