After being a member for a while, I guess it's time to start my own build thread. I got this car for my 17th birthday, and have had it for 9 months or so. Shortly after getting this car, I made the mistake of getting some halo headlights with black corner lights. Now I'm over that ricer stage, and I have better plans for the car. I've also put a wink mirror in the crx, which is the best $20 I've ever spent. When I bought the car, here's what it had done.

- b18a1 engine swap
- Hasport mounts
- Carbon fiber hood
- Greddy exhaust
- AEM intake
- Unknown headers
- Altezza tail lights
- 17" Motegi rims
- Pioneer head unit
- Aftermarket door speakers
- Short throw shifter

Another thing to note is that the entire car is lined with dynamat extreme. The previous owner did this because this was a competition db drag car. He told me he held the db record for loudest compact car in the Northeast. Here's a video of it in action

The previous owner removed all of his competition audio stuff, in case anyone was wondering. I don't have many pics of the car when I first got it, but that video does a good enough job. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to leave them below. I'm fresh out of high school and don't know much about cars. In the future, I plan to use this car for autocross occasionally and restoring it. Here's some pictures of how it currently stands.

Currently I'm working on a hood that I just bought for the rex. It was $40 off of craigslist. It was tahiti green but it was spray painted black. They spray painted over a decal as well

Here's the hood pins that came with the hood

Image

This is the carbon fiber hood that's currently on the car. It's REALLY faded, as well as having some other damage, and in my opinion not worth trying to repair.

Image

The paint stripper! Worked amazing at first, but when it came down to the tahiti green it let me down, I used that entire container, as well as a smaller container of paint stripper and there was still paint on the hood.

I learned an important lesson about bondo; use only enough as necessary.

Image

My camera broke, but currently I'm sanding the bondo and prepping the hood for paint. I'm debating if I should paint (spray paint) it white or black, because I don't have the funds to get the entire car painted. At first thought it was obvious that I should paint the hood white, but a freshly painted white hood vs. the 20 year old paint job on the crx has me questioning it. Oh yea, I'm a pic whore if you haven't noticed

Last night I was going down the interstate while my friend and I heard a banging noise. My friend puts his head out the window and tells me that my corner light came out. It's pretty obvious that it was smashing against the tire, so we just put it back in there

Image

Now that corner light won't turn on. There are 3 wires coming out of the corner light (two red and one black). I assume the red ones are for the halo headlights that I used to have, since my corner lights were wired up to the halo wiring. I tried replacing the bulb but it still didn't solve anything. The black wire that is connected to the corner light broke off, which I guess is why it doesn't work. I'm going to try to re-attach that wire and hopefully my corner light will work again.

This leads us to my next problem. Last night when I got home, I turned the crx off as usual and took the key off. When I got out of the car I noticed that my tail lights were still on. I tried to turn on/off the car and turn my headlights on and off, but it didn't solve anything. It was dark outside, so I just disconnected the battery. This morning I re-attached the battery and the tail lights just turned right back on (with no key in the ignition).

The circle shows which lights are on (vise versa on the other side)

Image

I'm not sure how to get the tail lights to shut off (other than disconnecting the battery) :( I'll try to connect that black wire on the corner light and see if that solves the problem. Any advice or suggestions would be great

^ Thanks for the help guys. I used the thread that JDMCrx91 posted, and that indeed was the problem.

Here's the black wire on the corner light, I found the other end and re-attached it.

Image

Used some JDM hemp to attach the corner light

Image

It works!! Even though you can hardly see it due to the tire marks on it

Image

But back to the tail light situation, I found this on the floor

Image

So after using this thread I went to the local Honda dealership and picked this up

Image

Image

It cost me $2.28, so pretty much I'm broke now

I've got some stock corner lights if you want them. They're in 'fair' condition I would say, as one has a small corner busted up a little bit, but they would look fine.
Sorry, I just put in an order for these. I've always liked the look of the amber corner lights and bumper lights.

Yesterday I went over to Matt's house (1cr_xxx) because my turn signal switch was broke.

Long story about how it broke - So one day I showed up at work at 4pm (in uniform and everything) and they told me I didn't start till 6. So I thought about how I needed my oil changed and just went to wal-mart to get it changed (yea, I know not the best idea). So after I'm waiting for like an hour just walking around the store, I go back to the garage section. They said they'd call me when it was done but clearly they didn't. So anyways, I pay the money and go home to grab something to eat before work. I got home, went to turn off my headlights and I noticed that the 'knob' was broke where it met the steering column. So I go back to wal-mart and tell them about it. I showed the head mechanic which was pretty amusing because he wasn't very happy. After writing a statement and making a few phone calls, wal-mart gave me the option of getting estimates at local garages or sending me $200. So a week or two later I got a check for $200 :D

But anyways, yesterday Matt put the new one in.

Let's just say I have no idea what's going on here

Image

Torque wrench!

It took about half an hour or so, but everything went well. Now my turn signal switch works fine and isn't broke  Thanks Matt

What sticker? If you're talking about that Honda one eating the vw that I had on my car, I took it off. And he only say the front of my car because he drove past me.

Today my girlfriend got me a japanese license plate for my birthday :D Today I tried driving around with it on the dash (because I've seen people do it) but I just couldn't figure out a way to secure it. I used some electrical tape to hold it to the door pillar but it didn't hold very long  I also got some amber corner lights and bumper lights in the mail  Myself and the gf will probably put them in tomorrow. Pics to come

Oh yea, I forgot to mention how I met another kid with a crx tonight at the Hanover circuit. I saw him at Wendy's, and we started talking. The first thing he asked me was what I had done to mine. Right when he said that, I thought about this thread.

I posted that a long time ago, but I remembered how everyone said to say I had a stock engine (in case anyone would ask me). So I just told the kid that I had exhaust and that it was a stock engine. Then he says about how clean my car is  so we walk over and look at it for a little. Then my friend and this kid start talking and the kid with the crx says how he has a vtec d16. My friend (not knowing a ton about honda engines) didn't think that was possible, so we go over to this kids crx and he pops the hood. Indeed, it was a d16 with a vtec head.

The kid with the crx then starts to ask me questions about parts for his car. At this time, I'm already feeling bad about lying to him that I had a d16. Then, he says "I see you have jdm tail lights, would you want to sell them? You could just put the stock ones back on then if you have them" (it was something along those lines). Then I was thinking if this kid was smoking crack or something, because my tail lights are clearly stock. I asked him what year his crx was and he said 88 or 89, I forget which. Since I could see the back of his car as this conversation was going on, I saw that he had the stock 88/89 tail lights in his. So maybe he thought mine was "jdm" because the 90/91 tails have the darker trim  idk

We talk some more, and when I come back from using the restroom he says in this dick head voice "Let me see what's under the hood, I'm sure it's clean like the rest of your car". At this point, it's obvious he somehow found out I had an ls swap. I guess one of my friends mentioned it, I'm not sure. Then I started laughing, and just asked him why he wanted to see under the hood. Then in his dick head voice he was like "Yea, I know you have .2 liters more than my car". I just made up another lie that I thought he meant what came stock with the car when he was asking about the engine. He knew I was lying, but at that point I could have really cared less. Not exactly the way I wanted my first impression to be like when meeting someone with a crx

Don't let that guy get to you. You were just being careful dude. Sounds like he was being a dick after he found out you lied about the B18 (Jealous BTW  ). I wouldn't worry about it at all. If anything I think he made a bad impression. :)

Yea, I didn't really think about he was also making a bad impression. Now I feel a little better haha. That's the thing that sucks about having a guilty conscious :| Oh well. Good thing I'm in college now so I won't be at Hanover much anymore 8) Oh yea, my 18th birthday was yesterday I'm legal now ladies

I'll try to get pics up tomorrow

For my birthday, my girlfriend got me a japanese license plate. I couldn't ask for a better girl  haha. Here's some pics.

So that's what was in that box!

Image

These were one of the only amber corner lights I could find that included the turn signal light. My black corner lights only had the hole for the driving light, not the turn signal light.

Image

Amber bumper lights vs. Clear bumper lights

This pic shows how there's no turn signal bulb

The corner lights came with clear bulbs, but I stuck some new amber ones in there

JDM wiring because of my halo headlights I used to have

Black vs. Amber

Image

Got the drivers side in

Image

This is where I got confused. The only guess I would have is that I have an 88/89 headlight on the passenger side. I don't know if that's possible or not, but here's why I think so.

A.) There's some kid of metal piece (almost looks like a bracket) inside of the headlight, and the one on the passenger side is starting to rust. The one inside the drivers side headlight looks perfect. The rust is around a bolt I think, towards the bottom (inside of the headlight, you can see it through the glass)
B.) There's no screw hole for the corner light on the passenger headlight. I know it attaches with 3 clips and then that screw, but there's nothing for the screw to go into. The hole on the drivers side for that screw was very obvious. After looking at the headlight housing, it's not even the same as the other side
C.) There's a piece of plastic that comes off of the corner light, which is where that screw gets inserted. When I tried to test fit the corner light, that plastic piece wouldn't let me put in the corner light the entire way. It's like there's a piece of the headlight housing that's blocking it.

I'm not sure if these pics help describe it at all or not, but here they are

Image

Image

So I just decided to cut that plastic piece and make a new hole, just like how the black corner light was held in.

Image

Image

I used a shoelace from an old shoe to hold in the corner light

Image

Image

Tying my shoes came in handy!

Image

If the amber one comes off when I'm going down the highway and wacks my tire like the last one I'm probably going to cry

Image

Look any different from when I started this thread?

Image

Image

My japanese license plate :D I used zip ties to attach it

Image

Image

Since I used zip ties, I'm worried about someone cutting them and taking it just to be a d-bag. I started college last week, and so far someone stole the huge carabiner that I had on my car. You can see it from some of the pics in this thread. Also, someone stuck a magnet on my friends car that said 'royal bitch' and it had a little princess crown on it. So what do you guys think I should do? I think the plate looks stupid when it's in the middle of the front bumper. Another thing that's depressing is that the honda:vw ratio is probably 1:4. Everyone has a slammed dub/audi or a lifted truck. I haven't seen many hondas (other than people who just drive them because it's a car). But one of them is a crx

After driving for around 2 hours, me and my friend stop at a gas station. The hood looked so weird because it started raining, but the chalk was like pushed up the hood

I almost didn't believe it, so we calculated it a second time just to make sure.

My friends car got 27 mpg and he was like wtf  But we established that it's because my car doesn't weigh anything, and that I was drafting behind him the entire time. I also named the rex, and her name is Kimmy 8)

Bad update

Tonight after I got off work, I checked my oil and there wasn't a drop on the dipstick. So I go to walmart and buy a 5qt thing of oil, and put some in my car. I accidentally put wayyyy too much in. Image the hole in the dipstick where it means it's full, and then double that and that's what my dipstick looked like. I just drove it back to my dorm (about 10 minutes) and it seems ok. But my roommate said that it's pretty bad for the engine and that I should drain some of it. Thing is, I'm in college so I don't have jack stands or an oil pan with me, and I'm 2.5 hours away from home. I think I'm gonna try to take it to a garage and ask them if they can drain some for me, or just change my oil :(

#72 ·
So this morning my roommate and I drained about 2 quarts of oil. It was pretty ghetto 8) We used a gallon milk jug to drain it into. Here's my roommate looking for the plug and me just watching

Image

We didn't have jack stands so I wasn't gonna volunteer to get under there. Haha. At least Kimmy is healthy now :D

Honestly man, I would hang it up on my wall. I wouldn't want the possibility of it getting stolen, especially under the circumstances. At the very least, hang it INSIDE from your car using suction cup license holders. There are a certain kind that work better than others. If you would like, I can take a picture of mine.

Look any different from when I started this thread?
So much nicer! :)b

Ha ha. Nice man. Did it shmish up your windows? :)

Not too bad! Best I ever squeezed out of my Si was 50. That was mostly due to a HF Trans. :D

Yea, could you take some pics? I know that it has sentimental value, and that she would be super pissed if it ever got stolen :( But I must say I love how it looks :D
