Squirrel has hidden its nuts in my vent!

No Joke! I just bought this car a few weeks ago, and the first time I adjusted the drivers side vent I noticed it was packed with peanuts as far as I could see into the vent.... All I can figure is "squirrel", but honestly it could be anything that put them in there. I just want to get them out since they are obstructing the airflow and the fresh air intake on the driver side.

Can somebody give me a quick tutorial about how to remove the vent from the dash so I can remove the nuts without breaking a bunch of plastic parts?

The car is an 88 CRX DX, non-AC model if that matters.

Thanks guys.

The vents are not bolted on in any way. To remove them you need to take a flathead screw driver and a rag (to protect the dash) and pry on the sides. It is difficult to get them out without breaking them so take your time. There are two metal tabs on the side right at the point where the piece turns and goes around the dash edge.

The units have two parts to them, the front face with the horizontal vents and the back piece with the vertical vents. The unit should come out as one assembly but be very careful as the front face can and will likely break away from the back part.

As for the center vent it works the exact same way. Just be careful, move slowly, and jiggle everything.

Thanks guys.... I had tried pulling the vent tube off from underneath, but didn't have any luck. Likewise with the dash vent, I didn't want to break anything. I'll give it another try tonight.

FWIW, my car is a non AC (poo since I live in AZ!), non-power window, and apparently non-power steering model. It's the basest of the base models. Since I'm building a gas mileage car out of it, that's all a good thing though.

Power windows and power steering were never offered on any CRX sold in the US.
Wasn't sure about those, but I figured that they might be options. What about cruise control? I don't have that either (It's about the only thing missing that I wouldn't mind having honestly)

My car was supposed to be a non sunroof model as well, but it had a glass pop-up put in it back in the day. Right now I'm jumping through hoops trying to find a replacement for the broken hinge on it. I'm not having much luck though and am about ready to just silicone the lid shut on it.
