Hello CRXcommunity.com, I'm BannisteR and here is my project car.
I picked her up December of 07 as a stripped shell. The shell was in great shape, no body rot or rust and had paperwork. Hasn't been registered stateside yet. She had doors, dash, carpet, hatch and haggard suspension. Picked up a set of HX wheels to roll her onto the tailor to get home and roll around in the garage. I'm currently stationed in VA and the car is in Cali safe in the garage. I will be getting hot and heavy into the build up of her very shortly as ill be bringing her out to VA so I will have ample time to work on it.
Most current state as of September '10:

It looks amazing!! Is it possible these days to find oem rubber trims for a crx?? I'm searching the last 4 years and i've found just a few... :(
It is possible, however be prepared for ridiculous prices sadly. What you can order from Honda, DO IT!!! You may just have to be patient and search and put feelers out for other parts. eBay pops up with some random deals at times, you may have your luck with overseas sellers. I had a few helpful people on some of the CRX and EF specific groups. Some pieces you may have to strip down and refinish them yourself.
Thanks!! Yes i am in the process of searching and everything i find on Honda dealers i'm buying it. I think i'll have to refurbish some stuff i won't find... Talking about ridiculous prices, i've found a site that sells brand new wiper cowl panel for $800!!!

The white looks super mint, will look great with all the trim back on to balance it out
It will be nice to see it all back on the car, I'll hopefully have updates this weekend when I go to check the progress on it.

The past couple months have been hectic, car is still at paint and rounding near completion (as far as paint goes) I've been dropping by the body shop and helping when I can with prep, assembly and some block work. It's nice to have the opportunity to be personally involved with this process. I didn't have the interior or the car painted because I had plans of painting that myself. While the car was in epoxy and primer a buddy of mine and I went over to the shop and marine coated the interior in a deck gray. I wasn't worried on it not matching the exterior, I just didn't want any more red on the car. I'll have full interior so 85% of this won't be seen anyways, the rear behind the seat and spare tire well will be about the only part of this that would be seen.
The shell is completely painted now, all the glass is back in and none of the bronze glass was sacrificed in that process :D I'm waiting on the bumpers and hoods to be finished up and start reassembly! What a feeling it is opening all these new Honda refresh seals and gaskets I've been collecting all these years to put on a fresh and new looking car. I also had a sinking feeling when the upper door moldings didn't fit... When I ordered these parts 7+ years ago I didn't realize that Japanese doors were only comparable with 88 CRX parts (pillar mounted seat belts) so I had so search for the two discontinued moldings. One was sourced from a dealership in WA state and the other after about a week of panic and people giving me ridiculous prices (also not willing to sell just the one side) I found one, in Osaka Japan. I ordered it and three weeks later "overnight parts from Japan"

Here's a few pics from a little assembly and the glass being put in.

New pillar trim and new visors

If you follow me on IG I'm sure most of these pics are old news, but it's nice to get back on here and have a little more solid documentation and some explanation behind some of the process. I'll have updates when the car is coming back from the paint shop, and then the re-assembly process!

No pics of progress but I'll hopefully have some next week as I plan to visit the shop to assist where I can and check progress. Lots of work stripping everything down and fixing any and all body work. The bay is currently getting a few portions filled and smoothed out, not doing a fully shaved bay just taking out brackets and holes that aren't used. I've sourced a set of clear bumper lenses and cut up a spare set of bumper lights to make a clear set. I also made a set of DC2 clear sidemarkers with LED internals. I just got my headlight lenses back for my headlights so I can finally finish my HID retrofit! Lots more to go but progress is being made.

I have a few pics from the past couple weeks of getting work done on the shell. Glass has been removed, doors and hatch as well. Nothing huge yet nor any final color sprayed but progress is progress. The bumper lights, taillights, and headlight lenses have been cleared so they will have long lasting protection as well as be clean and glossy for years to come. The doors, hatch, hinges and other misc. parts were media blasted then epoxied.

Another project ongoing at the shop as well, 911 getting turbo flares and and all over refresh.

The shell got a little bit of attention with being stripped and got some epoxy.

Very good decision on NOT using the atrocious MĂĽgen body kit!
It's not for me that's for sure haha.

With any build there will be setbacks, mine is no exception...
My old CRX is an EF7 model. With that many of the US parts made for the US chassis cars were utilized on that car. I had Hasport EFB2 mounts to utilize a hydraulic transmissionas well as a full race traction bar. I quickly found out I would not be able to use those items. I contacted Hasport directly to see what they had for mounts. They have one option... one... OEM replacement mounts. So no option to utilize a hydro trans either :| My option is to go with a cable trans or I could find a big spline YS1 trans to use the case to run the ITR internals and LSD. I had to order a new traction bar as well, I went with the K-tuned traction bar.
That's about it for updates as of now. Cars at the shop being stripped and prepped for paint.

What do you plan to do with the mugen kit?
Seems a shame to not use it but taste is taste I guess
Sold it already. They are a good looking kit but not the route I'm going with the car.

After a long three weeks of ownership of the EF8, she's down to the shell and suspension. I loaded the car up on the trailer with all of the spare body panels and took it to the body shop. She's getting a full makeover, and will be a refreshed car ready for all of the new goodies I've been collecting over the years.

The EF8 is now more stripped than the EF7 was/is  A week of ownership and its down to almost nothing. I'm hoping to get the rest of it wrapped up and swap the suspension components over in the next day or two, I'll need to notch the mount for the hydro clutch setup, other than that it should be ready to go to the paint shop.

Nice purchase!!! It looks absolutely gorgeous with the red colour and mugen bodykit!!!
Looked good, but not my style. Car is getting a full makeover 8)

Not the silvia!!!! Rip
It was fun while it lasted, I'll have another RWD turbo car again, for now the focus is the CRX (now the EF8 lol)

Oh wow, this is going to be quite the undertaking... :)b
Indeed it is, with yet another twist in the project.

So I stopped at a friends shop to pick up a spare SiR bumper. While I was there I was looking around and came across this EF8 with a bad motor...
A few hours of thinking and contemplating what to sell off and purchase, I made the call and bought the car the next day.

Most of you guys would be like OMGWTFBBQ real deal RHD SiR Glasstop plus a full Mugen ProII kit!!! Just put a motor in it and drive it. Well most of you may also figure out I'm not like most and am never content.

I am stripping both cars completely. Putting pretty much everything from my EF7 back on this car when the time comes, for now I'll be swapping suspension so I can roll the new car onto the trailer and send it off to paint. The old shell will get the old EF8 parts that are specific for RHD so I can sell off the shell. So pretty much anything necessary on the firewall and dash for someone to convert their car, or build off of that one. It's been awesome building it up, taking it apart and mocking up parts on it. I've got plenty of parts to pick and choose the best ones to put back into the EF8 when it comes back from paint.

Now back to stripping the cars, I won't have much progress until I've got the one out and everything cleaned up and ready for the new car. Sadly the only pics I've taken are with the iPhone. No real before/after shots with the DSLR... I'll post pics when I can though.

This sad and half stripped interior is about to be even more stripped...
Image

The exterior is looking just as sad, but not for long!
Image

And the teardown shall begin, well further than it already is lol...

Leaving anything stock is probably the hardest thing, so what do you do to your daily to make it feel a little more car like? You put Recaro's in it and swap out the steering wheel for a sportier one lol. I found out that I could use a Rav4 steering wheel in the 4Runner and everything functions as it did with the larger 4Runner wheel. I also put a set of CL1 Accord Euro R Recaro SP-J's in it.

Some exciting things are about to get underway for the CRX finally!
I'll be wrapping up a few more items on the car and then tearing it all down for the last time (fingers crossed) The fuel lines ran on the car go from the fuel rail all the way back to the fuel tank. There is no bulkhead fitting or disconnect so I'll be addressing that. I need to figure out where I'm going to run my clutch line through the firewall so I can either utilize an existing hole in the firewall or where I need to drill a hole and use a grommet to keep it all sealed up and in place. I need to have my reservoir tank modified at the bottom so I can properly mount it so it will be sturdy and not snap the tiny mount that it comes with. I have a few holes to drill so I can mount the forward bottom mount of the Cusco door bars and work on getting the center mount made so it will attach to the seat mount bolt. I also am toying with the idea of mounting the ITR rear upper chassis bar in the back of the hatch.
Then tearing everything out of the engine bay, everything off of the firewall and all panels off of the chassis, glass included
So, I have my work cut out for me because in the next month or so it will be sent out for a full respray :bounce:

Nothing too exciting, just some pictures of a few new parts and "progress"

Seats mounted up utilizing Downstar hardware

Cleaned up a few things in the engine bay, started swapping out the hardware in the engine bay, swapped out the mount hardware for some Downstar units.

And we're hydro!
Image

I picked up some S2000 CR sidemarkers.
Image

Swapped to some Top Secret locking aerocatch latches.

I found a center taillight section, I shaved and polished it up to match the other taillights.

So yeah... There it is, needs a lot more but its a start...
