After being a member for a while, I guess it's time to start my own build thread. I got this car for my 17th birthday, and have had it for 9 months or so. Shortly after getting this car, I made the mistake of getting some halo headlights with black corner lights. Now I'm over that ricer stage, and I have better plans for the car. I've also put a wink mirror in the crx, which is the best $20 I've ever spent. When I bought the car, here's what it had done.

- b18a1 engine swap
- Hasport mounts
- Carbon fiber hood
- Greddy exhaust
- AEM intake
- Unknown headers
- Altezza tail lights
- 17" Motegi rims
- Pioneer head unit
- Aftermarket door speakers
- Short throw shifter

Another thing to note is that the entire car is lined with dynamat extreme. The previous owner did this because this was a competition db drag car. He told me he held the db record for loudest compact car in the Northeast. Here's a video of it in action

The previous owner removed all of his competition audio stuff, in case anyone was wondering. I don't have many pics of the car when I first got it, but that video does a good enough job. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to leave them below. I'm fresh out of high school and don't know much about cars. In the future, I plan to use this car for autocross occasionally and restoring it. Here's some pictures of how it currently stands.

Currently I'm working on a hood that I just bought for the rex. It was $40 off of craigslist. It was tahiti green but it was spray painted black. They spray painted over a decal as well

Here's the hood pins that came with the hood

Image

This is the carbon fiber hood that's currently on the car. It's REALLY faded, as well as having some other damage, and in my opinion not worth trying to repair.

Image

The paint stripper! Worked amazing at first, but when it came down to the tahiti green it let me down, I used that entire container, as well as a smaller container of paint stripper and there was still paint on the hood.

After the paint stripper was gone, I went and bought a wire brush head for the drill to finish the job

I learned an important lesson about bondo; use only enough as necessary.

My camera broke, but currently I'm sanding the bondo and prepping the hood for paint. I'm debating if I should paint (spray paint) it white or black, because I don't have the funds to get the entire car painted. At first thought it was obvious that I should paint the hood white, but a freshly painted white hood vs. the 20 year old paint job on the crx has me questioning it. Oh yea, I'm a pic whore if you haven't noticed

So last night I went up to the Hanover circuit (local chill spot for cars) and when we went to go cruise, my crx decided to not start  So we pop the hood at Wendys, and try to jump start it. She didn't start, so then I thought back to how a distributor wire broke off a couple months back. We used electrical tape to fix it, but when we looked the tape came off. I guess that's what happens when you forget about stuff  So anyways, we try to use electrical tape to tape the wire down again but we had a lot of trouble. The wire needed pressure on top of it to hold it down, so we taped a dime on top of it (yea I know, really ghetto). Eventually we go it to start, but about 10 minutes into our journey home it shut off. Turned right back on, kept driving, and about 5 minutes later it shut off. This time it didn't turn back on, so we (4 of us total) all pulled over. We re-taped the wire, and started driving again. Not even 5 minutes later it shut off again, but we got it started and luckily we made it home.

Somehow I made it to work today, and after work I went to my friends house to try and fix the distributor wire. We used my friends soldering iron to solder the wire, eventually we got it to stay. So tonight we went up to the circuit again, and I noticed that my exhaust had a really raspy tone to it. My friend said I might have a hole in my exhaust, which is weird since it sounded fine last night. I don't think it could have anything to do with soldering the distributor wire, but correct me if I'm wrong. Other than the exhaust sounding weird, the car runs fine. Tomorrow (or today I guess) is the autocross, so hopefully everything goes well.

EDIT: Here's a pic from Hanover, the Accord is my buddy's

Lol fixing a wire will dnot do anything to your exhaust. Bro take off the 17's they make your car look like a 4x4  and while your at it get rid of the tail lights :)b

Your car will be a lot faster in the auto cross with smaller rims.

I have the 17's on for the autocross (which is tomorrow). I even posted a thread about if I should use the 17's or not for autocross

Smaller wheels are generally better, but if your steel wheels have some all-season economy tires or something, and your 17s have some performance tires, I'd go for the 17s.
Funny thing is, I was supposed to drive up and meet a member on here to buy some stock taillights. But I didn't trust my car since it shut off on me 3 times on the way home. It should be fixed now, so if everything goes well hopefully I can get them soon.

Let's just say that last weekend was pretty crazy. Here's some pics from the autocross to start out.

This crx was pretty sweet

I thought this was a carbon hatch and sunroof, but after seeing the guy pop the hatch I'm pretty sure it's just a layer of carbon fiber over everything.

Some guys were even taking pictures of my car :D haha. Here's a video of my dad at the autocross, on the second run he spun out from taking the turn to hard. On the third run, his friend was sitting in the passenger seat, and decided to yank on the e-brake because he thought it'd help my dad out

Rain is bad

The rain started shortly after the 3rd heat began, and everyone in the 3rd heat only got 1 run at most I believe. I was working during the 3rd heat, and even when it started to thunder and lightning they didn't immediately stop the event. After the rain cleared up, most of the scca board members wanted to clean up the track and call it a day (since more storms were coming). This didn't sit very well with the 3rd and 4th heat drivers because most of them have already did their job (working the corner, ect.) and virtually for nothing. The scca board members offered a free race at either dates of the next event, but since some of the people weren't' local they just wanted a refund. This lead to lots of people yelling, a scca board member giving some kids the middle finger, and another member saying they hope these kids never come to another autocross event. It wasn't a very good representation of the scca, but I would've acted the same way. I mean these 20 year old college students are yelling at people that have been doing autocross their whole life. I don't think all the drama was worth the $40 it cost to register. I have clips of everyone yelling at each other, but the sound isn't working so I'll try to figure it out.

Later on I was cruising on the highway and ran into another crx owner. We both pull into a local gas station, turns out that he's on crxcommunity as well (1cr_xxx). Funny thing is we were gonna meet before but never really got around to it. We went back to his place and he showed me his glasstop crx project which is pretty awesome. Snapped some pics, but it was dark out and cell phone pics aren't good to begin with

The plaid CRX is fast, very fast. And they're working on making it faster. Both drivers for that car are good drivers. If you can get an opportunity to ride with either one of them, make sure you do. The reason for the plaid (and the fake carbon fiber) is that the one driver owns a vinyl company, so they have open access to vinyl. The red CRX is a member on here as well (kupop) though he has been working on selling the rex. The 4th gen hatch has a dual cam ZC, I believe he's more about function than form, the muffler is hardly the worst looking part of the car. I've been seeing some of the aftermath of the rain fiasco on the message boards. I think I got the better deal by being at N16 from the sounds of it. We've autocrossed in the rain before, but if it gets too heavy, or if there's thunder and lightning, then there's nothing that can be done. I still need to get myself to a Farm Show event, they're supposed to be a lot of fun.

I definitely plan on trying to make the Hershey event in October.

That's pretty interesting, thanks for the info :)b And I'll be sure to get to the next Hershey event, I believe it's on October 23rd and 24th

Yea, you should try to make it to the next autocross in October. They're really fun. Txt me and sometime we can get better pics, I'm probably going to Hanover on Friday

Dang, no I didn't meet him. Partly because of my bad experience at the last autocross when I tried to talk to the crx owners. He'll probably have the rex sold by the next autocross though :x

He hasn't been bringing the CRX to many events lately. He's been co-driving a WRX, or he might start bringing his new car at some point.
I see. Well hopefully I'll be able to meet him sometime in the future.

Yesterday I put stock headlights in, I'll try to get amber corner lights soon.

I don't know what the big black thing is in the middle of this picture, but one of my headlight bolts fell down into it.

The wire my finger is pointed to is for the halo lights, and my corner lights are wired to it. I found out after putting the stock headlights in that my corner lights no longer work. I'll probably fix that when I get amber cornerlights

The big black thing is the resonator for the stock airbox. Since you don't have a stock airbox anymore, that can come out.
What does the resonator do? I'll try to take it out sometime i guess, thanks for the info :D

Hey man props for getting the crx with a b18a1..
Its like me whenever i got my first crx, it had altezzas, exhaust coming out the the other end. 17 stupid inch rims.
black "carbon fiber looking" clear corner lights. Spend all my money on a freakin optima battery, when really i didnt need it.
Spend my money on all of the wrong places..
Now my current project is de- ricing this rex i just bought, u posted on my thread, so id figure il help you out too..
but i do have a question that for some reason i cannot get my head around,
HOW THE CRAP DO YOU POST UP DIRECT PICS?
I went on photobucket, copied the html code and put it in between the image brackets, nothing.
again i did the same thing, but this time copied the IMG code on photobucket, nothing.
So I'm stuck with the stupid posting pics up, idk how this happened since ive been uploading and downloading things since i was a lil kid haha.. its driving me crazy i cant figure out this simple thing...
sorry to thread jack a lil though.

p.s. yeah, if you want to turn better, loose the 17 and get some alloys, 15 inch..
they are lighter, and you can turn better, you really dont get that much performance unless you are drag racing.
bigger rims only work better on a straight way, and from the looks of it, yours arent performance 17 in, or alloys.
good job though, on working on your own car, thats how you learn..

Thanks man. We sound really alike just like you said. Now I'm trying to de-rice it, we'll see how that goes. I bought some 15 inch Accord rims, but turns out they don't even fit my car  the bolt pattern is 4x114 i think and I need 4x100. I'm currently painting those rims, so hopefully i'll get some that actually fit my car sooner or later.

As far as pictures goes, you need to copy the IMG code. For example, here's what an IMG code looks like (i added a space so it didn't post the actual picture)

Image

And here's what it looks like (when the IMG code is posted)

Hope this helps. If it still doesn't work, try using another website like http://www.tinypic.com. That's what i use.

Oh, thanks man...
Yea I figured it out yesterday, I felt dumb, I was trying to do it all complicated, but didnt notice the obvious, thanks anyways...
As for ricer project you have in mind... go on craigslist, some one is always ricing a crx and getting rid of their old stock parts.. worked for me.

Thanks man :D And i tried to rip the black box out! I took off the one bolt but it just wouldn't come out, I don't know if it was connected some way that I couldn't see or not :x

I've got a set of 13" wheels that don't look too bad. Dealer option OEM Honda wheels. I'm not sure if they fit over Si brakes or not, I've never had an opportunity to try. They don't work with integra brakes, but the Si brakes are smaller. They're fairly light and tires are cheap, though there aren't too many choices for sticky tires. They make a good daily wheel. Let me know if you're interested.

Jw, did honda ever make any Si alloys, or just alloys, in 15in?
Because, I dont mind going 14's but 15's will give me perfect balance on height and driveability..
(sorry for threadjack)

EDIT: OEM honda, not just any alloys, im trying to go for the stock look, without 14 in. just 15 alloys honda wheels..

For our CRX's, largest is 14". Many newer Civics and Integras have 15" wheels available that would fit our cars. There are a lot of choices from the Integras, and the 99/00 Civic Si wheels are 15" and were also on certain year Civic EX's.

Thanks for letting me know, but right now I'm just looking for some 15's for autocross. I'm currently just rocking the 13" steelies

I can't figure out how to get the sound to work on the autocross youtube videos. But here they are. It's of the kids/scca board members yelling at each other.

Guess what guys?!?! STOCK TAIL LIGHTS :firstplace:

But it was a long and painful process. Got them from a member on here (slapahoracing), really nice guy. I made some new tail light gaskets, using this thread - viewtopic.php?t=9263. Only things I would change about the process would be to:

A.) use a pen to trace the old gaskets instead of chalk and
B.) use a pen to poke the holes for the bolts to stick through, instead of using a drill bit.

In my opinion, it's a million times easier to just use a pen to poke the holes. Also, the pen is a lot more precise than using chalk.

Here's some pics of the process

Image

As you can see, the old gaskets aren't in very good shape

Bye bye Altezzas

Lots and lots of dynamat

Peeling back the dynamat (had to use a butter knife to separate it from the car)

I don't know what this blue stuff is, but it looks like it was sprayed all over the back of the car. There was a lot of over spray as well, which got on the tail light harness. I had to pry the clip open because the blue stuff sealed it shut.
